Vegas Overnight: What to Do in Sin City with Just 24 Hours

Got 24 hours in Las Vegas? Don’t panic. You don’t need a week, a spreadsheet and a military-grade itinerary to get a taste of Sin City.

In fact, there is something quite appealing about a quick Vegas hit. Arrive, throw yourself into the madness, stay up far too late and disappear again before the whole thing starts to feel normal.

The trick is not trying to do everything.

Las Vegas is one of the most exciting cities on this globe

Start With the Strip

Once you’ve checked in, get yourself onto the Strip and just have a wander.

Head towards Bellagio and wait for the fountains. They’re free, spectacular and very Vegas. The shows run throughout the afternoon and evening, with more frequent performances after 8pm.

Then keep walking.

You’ll get the Eiffel Tower, the giant resorts, enormous signs, people dressed as superheroes and probably somebody trying to sell you something you absolutely didn’t intend to buy, with all the best casino games on hand as well.

That’s Vegas.

Eat Something Good

You only have one night, so this probably isn’t the time to settle for a sad sandwich from the hotel shop.

Vegas has restaurants everywhere, from fairly casual places to the sort of dining rooms where you suddenly start wondering whether your shoes are smart enough.

Pick somewhere that suits your budget and enjoy it. You don’t need to make dinner into a three-hour production.

You’ve got places to be.

Then Go Downtown

After dinner, head towards Fremont Street.

This is where Vegas feels a bit different. The Strip is huge, glossy and slightly ridiculous. Fremont has more of that old-school Vegas feeling, mixed with plenty of modern madness.

The pedestrian area is packed with bars, casinos, street performers, live entertainment and the enormous Viva Vision canopy overhead. There are also free nightly shows and concerts, so you can wander in without having to organise much beforehand.

And yes, you can gamble here too.

Although if you’re only in town for 24 hours, perhaps don’t spend six of those hours glued to the same roulette table.

Get Some Sleep. Maybe.

Eventually, you’ll need to go back to the hotel.

Or you could embrace the Vegas philosophy and decide sleep is somebody else’s problem.

If you’re staying overnight, grab a few hours. You’ve still got a morning.

And Vegas is surprisingly different once the crowds thin out and the sun comes up.

One Last Look

Before you leave, get one more look at the Strip.

Grab breakfast, coffee, or whatever constitutes breakfast after a night in Vegas, then take a final wander.

If you’ve got enough time, the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is an easy addition to the trip and one of those obligatory photos that you’ll probably be glad you took later. It’s one of the city’s classic free attractions.

And that’s really the secret to doing Vegas overnight.

Don’t try to tick every box.

See the Strip. See the fountains. Eat something decent. Have a look around Fremont. Maybe put a few dollars through a casino. Stay up later than you should.

Then get out.

You can always come back for the complicated version.
