After more than two happy years together I was caught cheating today and in honesty it was my first time doing so. While there’s been temptations in the past I have always shaken them away offering no more than an occasional flirt on passing or a quick massage. But this time it was a lot more. I went out with the sole purpose to be with another… and of course I don’t get away with it. Returning to the condo Moo Ping was quick to smell cat off me, nosing at my clothes and sniffing Fanfan’s feet… there was no hiding it. While I thought she’d be angry, turns out she was more curious and intrigued. Truth is Moo Ping doesn’t get out much; she is a condo cat and meeting others comes next to none. I guess she was excited to know there are others like her out there. In the past we did try introducing a random stray cat to her but this only ended in a dislike of gingers.
Purr Cat Cafe
We cheated on Moo Ping at the Purr Cat Cafe in Bangkok; more of a brothel of cats than a cafe. Walk in, order a drink (maybe cake), decide which cat you want to play with, then sit back and relax. Since I am going to cheat I’m going to make the most of it. With wide eyes I do them all; the seductive short-hairs, the scrunch faced grumble cats and a bunch of gremlin looking ones (I don’t really know cat breeds). There are all sorts at Purr Cat Cafe, something for everyone I guess. While the cats (below) look uninterested / annoyed they do love the attention. There are endless nooks and crannies for them to hide at Purr Cat Cafe yet they preen around, shaking tails, playing hard to get. The pick of the litter was easily number 3 (below) a 4 month old cute cat; young, adorable, playful. In short, pure kitty porn. My favourite however was number 1, crabby, surly with that ‘F**k Off I Hate You’ kind of attitude. Fanfan goes with number 4 naming him Yakuza because he looks total gangsta.
The Cat Cafe Rules
As expected the Purr Cat Cafe is popular with cutesy Thai girls and the occasional well pampered boy, I was the closest thing to a man there. All punters must adhere to the same rules; 8 in total including ‘Do Not Feed Cats Human Food, Do Not Disturb Sleeping Cats and most importantly Do Not Lift the Cats. Lifting cats comes with a 1,000 Baht fine which unsurprisingly was risked by a handful of girls hoping to get that smiley eye, cute kitty, Facebook pic.
Coffee and Cake
You’re not here for the coffee and cake are you? but they are necessary to get a seat at the Cat Cafe. While most sip their 3 hour Lattes I order some cat shaped brownies with ice-cream which I guess were tasty enough; hard to enjoy with surrounding odors of cat ass and chemicals. The experience is like eating in a vet. As expected the prices are a bit over the norm but not extortionate. It cost roughly 150 Baht for cakes and 120 Baht for Coffees. Note someone on TripAdvisor said the coconut cake was to die for; you might wanna go for that.
