Tips for booking holiday rental accommodation

When you’re finally thinking of booking that dream trip away, no matter where you’re looking to go, you should make sure you’re renting the right holiday accommodation for you. But what are the pitfalls to look out for?  We put together this handy guide that will give you some tips to help you book the perfect vacation rental for you.

What are you Paying for?

You should expect to pay a premium for certain luxuries and conveniences. A rental in a good location with comfortable beds, a modern bathroom and a new kitchen costs more than basic or dated accommodation. Say your searching for an apartment and you find that the price is significantly cheaper than the average rent in Memphis Tennesee, for example, you should double-check, triple-check the description, and make sure that what you see is what you’ll get. And don’t forget to check for hidden costs such as fees to use pools, leisure facilities and parking.

Check out the Reviews

Rental accommodation is often listed in more than one place, so make sure you check the reviews on multiple sites. And, ask yourself, do the reviews sound honest? Also concentrate more on the more recent reviews, as they’ll give the most accurate idea of what state the rental accommodation is actually in at the present time.

Some reviewers will also add their own photos, make sure you look for these as they’ll show you the accommodation without any of the gloss.

The Camera Tells Fibs

Many properties will show pictures of the sea, blue skies, or a tropical paradise.  But what is the actual accommodation that’s being offered?  If there are ten pictures of the view but only a couple of the apartment, house, or villa, then that might be suspicious. Make sure you don’t fall for a scenic photo.

It’s a Short Walk

Is the accommodation in the right location?  What are your interests and where do you want to be based?  City centre, remote island or in a complex?  Don’t sacrifice location if that is what your holiday is going to be based around.  If you’re happy to travel or explore then this isn’t such an issue.  But beware of vague descriptions saying how far places are away from the property.

All the mod cons

What are the facilities like?  Does the accommodation offer everything you need?  Think about the big items such as good air conditioning, decent views, plenty of privacy, and a large comfortable bed. Will you be needing a dishwasher, wi-fi or a luxury shower?  What about the little details such as small electrical appliances, cooking and dining items, and extra bedding?
